SMARTFOX Expands Its Product Portfolio with a New Booster for Utilizing Excess PV Power
SMARTFOX is expanding its product portfolio with the new SMARTFOX Booster 3K and the Booster Extension. The solution is designed for the smart use of excess photovoltaic energy and enables flexible hot water production based on available PV surpluses.
The SMARTFOX Booster makes targeted use of excess solar energy within the building itself, thereby helping to increase self-consumption. The heating output is continuously adjustable up to 3 kW and automatically adapts to the available PV energy. With the Booster Extension, the output can be increased to up to 9 kW.
Flexible Applications in the System Environment
The booster is designed for a variety of applications and can be used either on its own or integrated into existing systems:
Stand-Alone (Mains & Heating Element):
Operation is possible even without a solar power system; cloud connectivity and the use of dynamic electricity rates are optional.
The booster controls the heating element directly from the power grid—based on a timer, dynamic electricity rates (aWATTar, Tibber), or a temperature setpoint. It includes frost protection, Legionella protection, and cloud connectivity for remote access and monitoring.
Direct-Link integration:
Integration into existing photovoltaic systems for the direct use of excess energy.
Via Direct-Link, the Booster reads the surplus PV output directly from the inverter via Modbus TCP—no smart meter or manager required. Additional surplus control for maximum self-consumption with cloud monitoring
With SMARTFOX Energy Manager
Integration with other devices, such as wall boxes, into the existing energy management system.
In this fully integrated system, the SMARTFOX Manager coordinates inverters, smart meters, and up to three booster devices—offering maximum flexibility, intelligent prioritization, and full cloud connectivity for advanced control
Easy integration with a 3-click setup
Setup is performed using a simplified 3-click system. First, the inverter is selected; then, the heating element is automatically detected; and finally, one of the three operating modes is selected. This allows the booster to be quickly integrated into existing systems without complex configuration.
Technical Specifications
The system operates fully automatically based on the currently available PV surplus. It supports stepless power control, has a compact design, and is compatible with standard heating elements as well as SMARTFOX screw-in heating elements.
Control and monitoring are performed in real time via the “My SMARTFOX Go 2” app and the SMARTFOX Portal.
Benefits for Users
By strategically using excess solar energy in the home, self-consumption is significantly increased and grid consumption is reduced. At the same time, energy costs can be lowered because more of the energy generated on-site is used directly. The system’s easy integration allows for quick commissioning and flexible expansion of existing energy systems.
